Dr No: Film – Goofups
  1. Continuity: When fighting the bad guy that picks Bond up from the airport, he pulls back with his right arm and hits him with his left.
  2. Crew or equipment visible: Visible reflected in the window of the car that carries away Strangways’ killers.
  3. Continuity: Bond’s socks change from long to short when he is waiting in the dark in Miss Taro’s house.
  4. Crew or equipment visible: The camera’s shadow is visible on the ground as the car goes off the cliff in the car chase when Bond is headed to Miss Taro’s house.
  5. Continuity: Bond’s tie disappears when he attaches the silencer while waiting in Miss Taro’s house.
  6. Continuity: Honey Ryder’s goggles when she first meets Bond.
  7. Revealing mistake: During the sequence when Bond is crawling through the tunnel at Dr No’s complex, the walls in the tunnel wobble.
  8. Continuity: When Bond returns from the Ambassadeurs club early in the film to find the female gambler putting in his flat, both her hands and Bond’s change position on the golf club handle in different shots.
  9. Continuity: The car that Felix Leiter hops in at Kingston International Airport is a 1961 Chevrolet Impala pillared sedan, but the car that is used in the chase scene on the highway (in which 007 is in a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible), is a 4-door pillarless sedan.
  10. Continuity: When shooting at the “dragon”, Bond’s gun changes from a Walther PPK to a Colt .45. His gun also goes into slidelock (indicating empty) twice while shooting, and without visibly reloading, continues to fire.
  11. Continuity: When Bond kills a patrolman on the island, his shirt is dry around his shoulders right after rising out of the water.
  12. Continuity: When Bond and Honey go out of the water after Bond killed the soldier and after they clean themselves in clear water, Honey’s shirt is dry, when it was completely wet before.
  13. Factual error: The tarantula scene is very dramatic, but – unless he has a very rare allergy to spider venom – Bond is in no more danger than if he were sharing his bed with a bumble bee. Death, or even serious illness, resulting from a tarantula bite is extremely rare, and they don’t bite non-prey animals unless severely provoked.
  14. Continuity: When Bond and Dent are together and Dent tries to get the gun with his foot, there are several continuity issues: the gun is very close to Dent’s foot when there is a close-up, but then further away in the next image. Also, there are wrinkles in the cloths and then they are flat.
  15. Continuity: The hearse used by the Three Blind Mice in the scene where they shoot Strangways secretary and to chase Bond on his way to Miss Taro’s house is a Packard, which is also used in the rear-projection shots for the car chase. The vehicle which goes over the cliff, however, is a Humber. You can tell them apart easily as the Packard has separate headlamps mounted on the wings, while the Humber’s headlights are faired-in.
  16. Continuity: When Bond calls Miss Taro from his hotel, she gives him directions to her house – 239 Magenta Drive. Later, at the house, Bond calls for a taxi giving the address as 2171 Magenta Drive.
  17. Revealing mistake: A protective pane of glass is visible between Bond and the tarantula. Bond can be seen squishing his arm up against it.
  18. Continuity: When James lights his cigarette and Sylvia asks to raise the stakes, he first has removed the cigarette from his mouth and placed his hand on the shoe, but when he says, “I have no objection, ” he is just taking it out of his mouth. The camera cuts to his back, and his hand is back on the shoe.
  19. Continuity: When Bond enters Moneypenny’s office, he hangs his hat so that it’s facing the door. After his meeting with M, his hat is facing the other way.
  20. Incorrectly regarded as a goofup: Bond sets traps in his hotel room, including the closet, but is wearing a darker suit when we see him check them later. He changed suits in his room and reset the traps afterward; we didn’t see it happening because it wasn’t interesting.
  21. Continuity: One of Bond’s traps in his room is his briefcase; he puts talcum powder on it. When he is done he sets the case down on the right side of the table. To the left is a mirror and by the mirror is an assortment of perfume bottles and a shaving bag. When he returns, the contents on the table are reversed exactly, and the perfume bottles are replaced by a magazine.
  22. Continuity: When you see Bond in his hotel room for the first time, there are two bottles on the table, a clear one and a green one. When he reenters the room and checks his traps, the green bottle has disappeared. Bond takes a bottle from a drawer but that also is clear so what happened to the green one?
  23. Continuity: When James Bond sits down with the freelance photographer at the club, the camera strap is around the girl’s neck. When they do a close-up shot of her the strap is gone. In the next shot, James is taking the strap and the camera from her neck.
  24. Continuity: When Bond is driving to Miss Taro’s house in the hills, he’s being chased by a couple of people in a LaSalle hearse. We see Bond and the hearse swing round a corner and head toward the camera. We then see a shot of Bond and then another shot of the cars coming around the same corner (you can tell by the small bush on the right side of the hill next to the road). In fact the same location is used in 3 separate takes from the exact camera position.
  25. Audio/visual unsynchronised: The car chase toward Miss Tauro’s house takes place on a gravel road, but you can hear the tires screech when the car goes around the curves.
  26. Continuity: When Bond finally reach Miss Tauro’s house and she opens the door for him, all the shutters on the door are at the same angle. As Bond steps in, one of the shutters has changed its position.
  27. Continuity: When Bond is waiting for Professor Dent to arrive at Miss Tauro’s house, he pulls out his Walther PPK to attach the silencer which is actually an FN Browning. This can be verified when the camera zooms in Bond when he’s attaching the Braun silencer to the pistol. You can see closely on the grip of the pistol there are two letters written in calligraphy, spelling FN.
  28. Continuity: When Dr No crushes the gold Buddha statue at the dinner table with his hands, it falls off the table onto the floor. However, when a wider camera angle is shown, right before the guard takes Bond to the elevator, the gold statue is back on the table.
  29. Continuity: In the end, when Bond takes Chang’s place, he turns the radiation level up to 40-45. When he’s fighting Dr No up on the walkway, it goes down to 30, but no one has touched the wheel.
  30. Continuity: At the very end, when Bond and Honey are in the rowboat together you can see that one is on the left side of the other. However, in the next shot they have reversed positions.
  31. Revealing mistake: When Bond and Honey are made to take showers to clean them of any remaining radioactivity, they are meant to be naked. When Honey gets out of the shower a man holds a towel up for her, but if you look closely you can see that she is wearing a flesh-colored swim suit.
  32. Crew or equipment visible: When you see a black sedan-like car pull away (with the assassins in it), reflected in the windows of the car are the camera lights.
  33. Crew or equipment visible: In M’s office you can clearly see a boom light reflecting off a painting above the mantelpiece.
  34. Continuity: During the introductory casino scene, Bond’s cigarette keeps jumping between his hand and his mouth. This is most noticeable when Bond says, “I have no objections.”
  35. Audio/visual unsynchronised: Chinese lounge singer’s voice is heard while his mouth is not moving
  36. Continuity: The speedometer of the ’57 Chevy shown in the chase scene is actually that of a ’57 Ford.
  37. Factual error: In the closing credits, John Kitzmiller’s name is misspelled “John Kitzmuller”.
  38. Factual error: Dent’s gun is a seven-shooter, not a six-shooter as shown When Dent “kills” Bond’s pillow. This error is due to the fact that an alternate version of the scene had Dent firing one last bullet but missing before being gunned down by Bond. When the decision was made to have Bond murder Dent instead, a factual error was created by making Dent’s gun a six-shooter.
  39. Audio/visual unsynchronised: During the briefing scene, “MI7” is noticeably dubbed over “MI6”. The closed-captioning on the DVD release still says MI6.
  40. Continuity: When the Jamaica radio signal is first reported lost, an official notifies MI6. During the briefing with Bond, however, M says the 007 section is part of MI7 (this has in fact been dubbed over the original dialogue which said MI6). This also contradicts later Bond films that establish the 00 section as being part of MI6.
  41. Revealing mistake: When Dr No picks up the small statue (before the close-up of him crushing it), you can see it get squashed a little and that it’s soft and squishy like rubber.
  42. Crew or equipment visible: At the airport on Jamaica, when Bond uses the telephone booth, you can see the lighting and crew members reflected in the glass door as he opens it to walk in and out, also when Felix opens the door you can see them again.
  43. Continuity: In the dinner scene with Doctor No, when Honey is about to be taken away, Bond is shown in close-up shots holding up the table knife with both hands, but in the other shots his arms are down.
  44. Audio/visual unsynchronised: When Dr No’s men pass by in a boat and shoot at the shore where Bond, Honey and Quarrell are hiding, their commander shouts “We’ll be back – we’ll be back with the dogs!” into a megaphone, which has an echo effect. He then lowers the megaphone and waves his arm as he shouts “Full Speed Ahead!” – which has the same megaphone/echo effect, despite the lack of megaphone use.
  45. Continuity: When Bond is sliding down the pipe, a gush of water sweeps over him. However, later, when he emerges from the pipe, he is in a hallway with no trace of the water.
  46. Continuity: When James Bond and Honey Ryder are washing themselves by the waterfall, when Honey Ryder is in the water, her clothes are all wet; but when they come out of the water, her clothes are completely dry.
  47. Revealing mistake: When Bond escapes from his cell via the steam pipe, he gets hit with a blast of “scalding water”. if you watch close, when the water hit Bond, his wig flies up revealing Connery’s bald spot.
  48. Audio/visual unsynchronised: When Honey Ryder is introduced and emerges from the water singing, there is one shot in which her lips aren’t moving as she sings.
  49. Continuity: The scene at Ms. Taro’s apartment happens in the dead of night, yet daylight can be seen coming in through the shutters.
  50. Audio/visual unsynchronised: When Ms. Taro’s door is closed, no noise can be heard from the door being slammed shut.
